Ambassador Anurag Srivastava is a career diplomat who joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1999. In his last assignment, Ambassador Srivastava was Joint Secretary (Director General) in the Ministry of External Affairs heading the desk dealing with India’s relations with two of its immediate neighbours, Nepal and Bhutan. Ambassador Srivastava has also been the Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, where as the primary interface of the government with the media, he was responsible for articulating India’s position on key issues of interest in the foreign policy domain. He has served as India’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti in Addis Ababa where he was also concurrently India’s Permanent Representative to the African Union. Ambassador Srivastava has earlier headed the Finance Division of Ministry of External Affairs which administers an annual budget of over USD 2 billion. As a substantial part of this budget is directed towards supporting India’s development partnership projects globally, he was responsible for managing financial flows to them as also for their monitoring and oversight.
